John French
When the First World War began in August 1914, General John French was the Commander in Chief of the British Expeditionary Force which was dispatched to France to help stop the German army which was advancing towards Paris. He describes his experiences during the deployment of the BEF to France, the retreat from the Germans at Mons, the beginning of the deadlocked trench war, and the pivotal battles of the Marne, the Aisne, and Ypres. This edition is illustrated with five pages of photos.
